DELAWARE, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Delaware, Ohio on Friday afternoon to compete in the All-Ohio Championship race, running against more than 40 teams from around the state. The men were led by sophomore Mike Andersen, who coming off the two strongest races of his career placed second overall leading UD to a 15th overall finish. The women's squad was led by underclassman Alex Miles who helped lead the Flyers to a 14th place team finish.

Andersen, who has led the Flyers in every meet this season, finished in a strong time of 25:32.1, good for second place overall. Consistent senior Eric Contreras finished second for the fourth time this year clocking in at 27:23.7. Next came junior Daniel Sammons who came in at a time of 28:15.9 on the eight-kilometer course, good for 112th place. Sophomore Mike Peters finished fourth for the Flyers in 28:23.8. Coming in right after Peters was sophomore Tommy Middleton who covered the course in 28:40.8.

Displacing runners from 42 teams, senior Tony Holtvoigt came in sixth for the Flyers and completed the race in a final time of 29:16.0. The Flyers seventh man, senior Matt Manning did not complete the race due to a knee injury.

Ohio State men's team placed four runners in the top 10 winning their third straight team title and their fourth title in five seasons at the All-Ohio meet. Bowling Green State freshman Eddie Kipchoge won individual honors finishing in a time of 25:30.2.

"It's interesting to see that the two top finishers of the race are both from Division I schools who have limited track programs," said head men's cross country coach Rich Davis. "BGSU and UD only compete in five meets throughout the spring. It's an accomplishment knowing that despite our limited track seasons, we've produced two of the top runners in the state of Ohio," he added.

On the women's side, freshman Flyers led the pack as Alex Miles and Kristin Terry came in first and second respectively at the meet. Miles crossed the finish line at 19:41.9, leading the Flyers to a 14th place finish overall. Terry was only a few seconds behind Miles coming in at 19:49.1, good for 55th place. Sophomore Ellen Nienhaus finished third for UD in a time of 19:59.6 and sophomore Sydney Hubbard followed behind finishing in 97th place overall (20:26.2). Coming in fifth for the Flyers on the five-kilometer course was Amy Kempf (20:37.8).

Helping displace runners from other teams, freshman Bridget Conlon (21:05.2) and senior Emily Haas (21:16.3) rounded out the scorers for the Flyers team placing sixth and seventh respectively.

The women's team from Ohio University placed five runners in the top 20 to edge out Ohio State for the All-Ohio Championship title. Wooster senior Katie Wieferich placed first overall at the meet by a margin of nearly 13 seconds over Bowling Green State's Jamie Roflow becoming the schools first-ever individual All-Ohio champion.

Next up for the Flyers is the Falcon Invite in Bowling Green, Ohio on October 14th.
