KETTERING, OH - The University of Dayton cross country program opened up its season this morning by coming in third at the Flyer 5K Challenge at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering..

Leading the Flyers was Mike Andersen who placed 16th among Division I runners with a time of 16:11. Also scoring for the Flyers were Eric Contreras (16:14), David Berning (16:17), Billy Pryzbyla (16:24) and Matt Peters (16:28).

Miami took the Division I crown for the third year in a row. Chris Swisher from Miami took the individual Division I title with a time of 15:33. Northern Kentucky won the Division II race uncontested with Greaham Niemer (16:04) taking the individual title.

The Flyers' sixth and seventh finishers, Brian Gilchrist (16:31) and Daniel Sammons (16:32), displaced 11 runners from Wright State, IUPUI and Xavier.

Displacing runners adds points to the other team's scores and is considered the "defense" during meets.
