Dayton, OH - Concluding a very successful men's tennis season, the Flyers received top honors this week as the Atlantic 10 announced the men's tennis All-Conference Team. Senior Rob Altenau (pictured) and sophomore Tom Murphy were named All-Atlantic 10 and head coach Steve Brumbaugh was named Coach of the Year.

This was Altenau's second year on the All-Conference Team. Altenau was also named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row in a separate vote by all the sports information directors in the conference. He is originally from North Bend, OH and holds a 14-14 singles record on the season and a 15-11 doubles record. His performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship helped bring the Flyers to a second-place finish, the Flyers' best ever.

In addition to his tennis achievements, Altenau holds a 3.95 grade point average with a major in biology. He is a member of the University's Honors Program/Presidential Scholarship as well as the Golden Key International Honor Society. His service to campus ministry at the University of Dayton awarded him the 2005 Brother Vincent Wottle Award. Altenau is a UD Berry Scholar and earned the John J. Comer Ecological Undergraduate Research Award, which is awarded to the biology major best demonstrating research excellence in ecology. In 2004 Altenau was an Academic All-American as well as an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2003-2004. He will graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Dayton in May.

Murphy finished the year with a 21-8 singles record on the season and a doubles mark of 19-9. This is also Murphy's second time on the All-Conference Team. He was named Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer last year in 2004 as a freshman.

Head coach Steve Brumbaugh was named Coach of the Year for taking Dayton to a 16-7 overall record and a second-place finish at the 2005 A-10 Championship. This was the best finish ever for a Dayton men's tennis team. Under Brumbaugh's guidance Dayton cruised to victories over Duquesne (4-0) and Xavier (4-1) to meet top-seeded Richmond in the final. This is Brumbaugh's second A-10 Coach of the Year award. His first was in 1999 for guiding the Flyers to a fourth-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
