PETE TABERNIK WINS ALUMNI MATCH AS TEN FORMER PLAYERS RETURN
Oct. 17, 2008
Ten former Dayton men's tennis players returned to campus on Saturday, Oct. 11 to make the annual Alumni Match at NCR Courts a success. With the current tennis players on vacation for Fall Break, the event consisted only of alumni versus alumni matches. Pete Tabernik was crowned champion for the fifth consecutive year. The format consisted of five rounds of doubles matches, with each participant switching partners following each round. Tabernik accumulated the most points in the round robin. Following the match, head coach Steve Brumbaugh invited the former players to Milano's to continue catching up. Brumbaugh was also pleased that many parents of the alumni made the trip, proving that there certainly is something special about the "Flyer Family". "We had a great turnout on a beautiful October day," Brumbaugh said. "It was great to see everybody." Other alumni participants were Dan Altenau, Rob Altenau, Jamison Downs, Jon Khoury, Tom Murphy, David Nessessary, Brad Nykiel, Steve Southers, and Steve Thompson. The current UD men's tennis team concluded its fall season earlier this month at the Ball State Invitational, its last of three fall tournaments. The spring season begins on Jan. 16 against Toledo at home. |
