The University of Dayton men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season with a successful showing at the Michigan State Invitational Tournament in East Lansing, Michigan, October 9-10.

Senior Matt Sherman stepped-up big at #3 singles, defeating Michigan State, UIC, and IUPUI for a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend. In his final match, paired against IUPUI's Volz, Sherman held on in what was one of the longest and most grueling third set tie-breakers, finally topping Volz 21-19.

"It was such an exciting match," noted Flyers' Head Coach Eric Mahone. "I was extremely proud of the senior leadership Matt (Sherman) showed in fighting to the end and keeping his focus for such an intense set."

Freshman duo Joe West and Robert Salcedo also brought home a big win at #2 doubles, beating the Big Ten Conference's Michigan State (8-6).

Bryce Warnock represented the Flyers at #5 singles, finishing 3-1 overall.

The squad will return to the courts in mid-January to kick off the spring season. An official schedule will be available at www.DaytonFlyers.com later this month.
