Junior Michael Rohana went 2-0 on day one of the Ball State Invitational to reach the quarterfinals in Flight A singles and lead the Dayton attack in Muncie, Ind on Friday. Freshman Andrew Nixon and sophomore Michael Koscielski also won a pair of matches Friday to earn spots in the quarters in Flight D.

Rohana's first round victory came over Rob Fox of Cleveland State in a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) thriller. His second round match against Eastern Illinois's Jordan Nestrud was no easier. He topped Nestrud 7-6 (4), 0-6, 1-0 (5) to advance.

In Flight D, Nixon's victories both came in straight sets. He defeated IPFW's Diego Arteaga 6-1, 6-4 before downing Butler's Ben Shafer 6-4, 6-1. Koscielski also breezed through the competition, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Brad Krick of Wright State and 6-4, 6-2 over Adam Whitmer of Valpo. Sophomore Chris Riccardella also won his lone match of the day to advance to the Flight D quarterfinals as well.

Sophomore Bryce Warnock tallied Dayton's final win on day one with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Eastern Illinois's Drew Grimaldi in his opener at Flight C.

Competition will conclude on Saturday.
