FLYERS DOMINATE FORDHAM, FINISH IN TIE FOR 9TH AT A-10s

MONROEVILLE, Pennsylvania - The Flyers held onto to an early lead by winning three singles courts in straight sets to top No. 12 Fordham on Saturday in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship to finish in a tie for ninth place. Ninth-seeded Dayton finished 1-1 in the tournament and in a tie for ninth for the second straight year. The Flyers started the day by winning convincing at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 3, freshman Phillip Dresden saw his first action of the tournament and teamed with sophomore Bryce Warnock for an 8-1 win. The No. 2 tandem of junior Matt Sherman and sophomore Michael Koscielski was victorious 8-3. In singles, UD won at No. 2, 3, and 4. Sherman, Warnock, and senior David Peyton combined to win three matches by a combined set score of 36-8. Dayton finished the season 8-16 and will lose only senior, Peyton. |
