FLYERS SHUT OUT DUQUESNE

Monroeville, PA - The Dayton Flyers shut-out Duquesne with an impressive 4-0 victory in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Oxford Athletic Club in Pennsylvania Friday. The Flyers are the second-seed in the tournament. The Dukes, the number seven seed, defeated 10th-seeded Fordham earlier Friday morning.

Sophomore Tom Murphy defeated Duquesne's Michael Ortega at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Flyers an early lead. Senior Rob Altenau had a lead on Devon Peightal 6-3, 5-3 but did not finish. Jonathan Khoury beat Rodrigo Lacayo by a score of 6-4, 6-0, and James O'Connell posted a win over Paul Clough in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Rex Cabrera and Jamison Downs were leading when the Flyers clinched the match.

Tom Murphy and James O'Connell defeated Paul Clough and Rodrigo Lacayo of Duquesne in #2 doubles action by a score of 8-3. Jamison Downs and Rex Cabrera followed up with a #3 doubles victory over Rob Ojeda and Devon Peightal, 8-3. Seniors Rob Altenau and Jonathan Khoury were up 4-1 in a match that did not finish.

The Flyers will take on three-seeded Xavier on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the semifinals of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships.
