Monroeville, PA - The UD men's tennis team advanced in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship after shutting down the University of Rhode Island 4-0 Thursday morning. The Flyers improve their overall record to 12-10 with the win and move on to a 2:00 p.m. second-round match-up with #3 George Washington.

After the Flyers took the doubles point and three singles matches, the three on-going matches were all suspended. Dayton walks away with just its second shut-out win of the spring season.

Senior co-captain Rex Cabrera (11-7) earned the Flyers a point from the fourth position, where he defeated Rhody's Adam Gart 6-1, 6-3. Dayton also received a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win from freshman Matt Sherman (6-16) at the five spot.

The third singles point for Dayton was claimed by another rookie, Michael Rohana, who continued his streaky play with a win at third singles over URI's Dixon Simmons 6-1, 6-2. Rohana (7-11) is now 6-2 in his past eight singles matches after beginning the year 1-9.

In winning the doubles point, Dayton's duo of senior Tom Murphy and junior James O'Connell (12-7) slipped by the Rams' Henrik Almstrom and Dixon Simmons 8-6. Cabrera and Rohana (4-0) were also winners in the doubles portion of the match, picking up an 8-4 decision over Rhode Island's Andrew Costin and James McGuire.

Dayton advances to a 2:00 p.m. re-match with third-seeded George Washington. The Flyers bested the Colonials 4-3 at Dayton Center Courts on February 17.
