April 2, 2006
Valparaiso, IN - Dayton men's tennis finished the second leg of their double-header on Saturday, squaring off with Wisconsin-Green Bay. Although it was a tight match, the Flyers were able to steal a 4-3 victory from the Phoenix to improve to 10-11 on the season. UD took the doubles point against UWGB, dropping just a lone match at the second spot. Junior Tom Murphy and senior Jamison Downs secured their second win of the day in dominating fashion, blanking Mark Goldin and Scott Dickert 8-0. With the win, Murphy and Downs became the first duo to reach double-digits in doubles play this year for the Flyers. Junior Rex Cabrera and his sophomore partner, Chris Jones, were also repeat winners Saturday afternoon, securing the doubles point, with a convincing 8-3 decision over Eric Hines and Matt Keesey. The doubles point turned out to be pivotal for the team as they split the singles matches with the Phoenix. Murphy improved to 13-5 on the season with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 come from behind victory against Tim Prudlow. Following Murphy with a win was Downs at the three spot, he defeated Matt Keesey 6-4, 6-1.
