DAYTON MEN'S TENNIS POLISHES OFF CHICAGO STATE
April 2, 2006
Valparaiso, IN - The Flyers began today's scheduled double-header on a high note making quick work of Chicago State University. The 5-2 win over the Cougars will keep it possible for UD to avoid finishing the spring with a losing record. Dayton is now 9-11 with just two matches remaining in the regular season. The team got off to a good start securing the doubles point by taking two-of-three from Chicago State. Junior Tom Murphy and his senior partner, Jamison Downs, knocked off the Cougars top doubles team of Prakowo Imanuel and Jonathan Sutjaidi 9-8 (7-5). UD also picked up a win from junior Rex Cabrera and sophomore Chris Jones, who were paired together for the first time on Saturday afternoon. The tandem snuck past CSU's Dejan Avramovic and Abram Mamahit at the three spot, 9-7. In singles action UD netted four wins to seal the victory. Murphy, who had lost two consecutive matches for the first time this season, recovered nicely to defeat Prabowo Imanuel at first singles 6-4, 6-3. Cabrera stepped in at the two spot for the Flyers and also came away with a clutch win, getting past Sutjaidi 7-5, 6-2. At third singles, Downs picked up his second consecutive victory in singles play by taking down Mamahit 6-3, 6-3. UD then dropped matches at fourth and fifth singles, before rebounding to take the final contest. Jones was a winner in that match as he took care of Avramovic 6-2, 6-2. Dayton will take a short break before embarking on the second leg of today's double-header, which pits the Flyers against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. First serve remains scheduled for 3:00 PM. |
