Dayton, OH - The homestanding University of Dayton men's tennis squad defeated Valparaiso 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers finished their season in a flurry with four straight wins. UD will now head to the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament with an 11-10 overall record.

The Flyers swept the doubles matches to begin the afternoon and dropped just one singles point in the contest.

In doubles action, senior Tom Murphy and junior James O'Connell teamed up to knock off Valparaiso's Mike Shideler and Alex Lau 8-6. At second doubles, senior Rex Cabrera and freshman Michael Rohana were winners by the same score over Nic Kooyers and Joe Venegas. Sophomores David Peyton and Antonio Rodriguez completed the sweep at the three spot with a 9-8 (5) victory.

The Flyers dropped a point at fifth singles, but carried the rest of the available points.

Leading off, Murphy (17-4) took down Valpo's Kooyers 6-3, 6-3. James O'Connell (13-7) followed with a win at second singles against Valpo's Joe Venegas 6-0, 6-3.

Rohana (6-11) then made easy work of Lau at the third spot 6-1, 6-2. Cabrera went the distance with David Bukowski at fourth singles, but won the match 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Peyton (11-8) won his eighth consecutive match, playing at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2, over Mike Wagner.

The Flyers, now winners of six out of seven, will head to the Atlantic 10 Championships in Pittsburgh this Wednesday looking to improve on last season's fourth-place finish. Seedings and pairings for the tourney will be announced on Monday.
