CRUSADERS DISPATCH FLYERS
March 31, 2006
Valparaiso, IN - The Flyers were on-hand Friday as the home team christened the Valparaiso University Tennis Complex, a brand new facility. After the doubles matches were through it looked as though UD might spoil the event, but it wasn't meant to be. The Crusaders rebounded after dropping the doubles point to sweep the Flyers in singles play, winning the match 6-1. The loss dropped the Flyers to 8-11 on the season, with just three regular season matches to go. In doubles play, freshmen Brad Roby and David Peyton started things off at the two spot with an 8-1 loss to Valpo's Dave Bukowski and Mike Wagner. The Flyers' top tandem of junior Tom Murphy and senior Jamison Downs followed with an 8-5 win over Nic Kooyers and Mike Shideler. Junior Rex Cabrera and sophomore Chris Jones then sealed the point for UD, beating Joe Venegas and Alex Lau 8-5. After that things began to spiral downward for the Flyers as the team was swept in singles play for the fourth time this season. UD will begin a double-header Saturday as the team will stay in Indiana to take on Wisconsin-Green Bay and Chicago State. The Flyers will face UW-Green Bay in the first match, scheduled for an 11:00 A.M. start time. |
