FLYERS TOP XAVIER, 6-1

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Flyers men's tennis team nearly swept rival Xavier, posting a 6-1 Wednesday at Dayton Center Courts. The Flyers went 5-1 in singles play, and took two of three in doubles action. Tom Murphy got UD rolling with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win over Xavier's JR Randall. Jonathan Khoury swept Justin Yeager, 6-1, 6-3, before James O'Connell defeated Rob Simpson, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Rex Cabrera and Jamison Downs rounded out UD's singles wins as Cabrera got past Brian Schubert (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and Downs defeated Adam Shaeffer, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. Jeremy Miller was the lone Musketeer to get a win in singles, posting a 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 win over Rob Altenau. Miller teamed with Randall to pick up a doubles win over the combination of Murphy and O'Connell, 8-6. Altenau and Khoury defeated Yeager and Simpson, 9-8 (7-5), while the Cabrera and Downs pairing topped Schubert and Rustin Reys. The Flyers have won three-straight and four of five to run their record this spring to 11-6. Dayton is back in action on Friday, against IUPUI at NCR Courts in Dayton. |
