MEN'S TENNIS KNOCKS OFF WRIGHT STATE 4-2

Dayton, OH - The University of Dayton men's tennis team inched back to within one win of the .500 mark with a 4-2 win over the Wright State Raiders on Tuesday afternoon. The Flyers have now won three of four since spring break and improve their record to 9-10 overall with two matches to play before the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. UD took the doubles point to start the match with senior Rex Cabrera and freshman Michael Rohana notching a win at second doubles over WSU's Craig Smith and Lance Koetter 8-4. Sophomores David Peyton and Antonio Rodriguez then defeated WSU's Dan Sundersingh and Brian Butt 8-4, which clinched the point. In singles play, senior Tom Murphy (15-4) earned his team-leading 15th win of the spring at first singles. It was the fourth straight win for Murphy, who defeated Koetter in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Rohana (5-10) added another point for Dayton at the three spot. The freshman came from behind to knock off WSU's Nick Camilleri 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Peyton (9-8), playing at sixth singles, continued his stellar play with a straight setter win 6-4, 6-2. Peyton, who defeated Sundersingh in the match, pushed his personal win streak to six straight singles contests. The Flyers will finish off the regular season this upcoming weekend with two home matches. UD is scheduled to take on Northern Kentucky on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and will conclude its spring schedule with a 2:00 p.m. meeting with Valparaiso on Saturday. |
