Dayton, OH - Men's tennis got back on the winning side of things on Monday with a decisive 6-1 victory over Wittenberg University. The win snapped a season-high four match losing streak for the Flyers, who pushed their overall record to 8-9. The win was also a nice homecoming for the team, which is now 7-1 when playing on a home court this season.

Dayton dominated the Tigers in every facet of the match beginning with singles. The team won five singles matches with just one hiccup in the fourth flight. At first singles sophomore James O'Connell stepped up and produced a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Shane Hutton. Senior Jamison Downs followed that up at second singles by taking down Steve Wilson 6-2, 6-1. In the third flight, freshman Brad Roby was a winner over Nick Mclean 6-3, 6-4. Freshman David Peyton then lost at fourth singles to Brad Seymour 6-4, 7-6 (6). Fellow freshman Phillipe D'Estaing, however, turned things around for UD when his opponent, John Shields, retired after going down one set 7-5. Finally, freshman Antonio Rodriguez finished things off with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 comeback win over Ryan Snyder.

UD went on to sweep the Tigers in doubles action. It was the sixth time the Flyers have won all three doubles matches in a contest this season. Junior Tom Murphy and Downs teamed up for their ninth doubles win on the season, handling Hutton/McLean 8-4. The rest of the damage was done by freshmen. Roby and Peyton teamed up to hand Shields/Snyder an 8-2 loss, while the combo of D'Estaing and Matias Rocha bested Seymour/Eckstein 9-7.

The Flyers are hoping to continue their success at home tomorrow at 3:00 PM against Butler. For anyone planning to attend the match, originally scheduled to be played at the NCR Courts, it should be noted that the contest will be played inside at Dayton Center Courts instead.
