Dayton, OH - In its most atypical win of the season, the Dayton Flyers men's tennis team cruised past the Temple Owls by a score of 5-2. Although Temple claimed points at first and second singles, the bottom part of the Flyers' lineup came through with four singles wins to help push UD's conference record to 3-3. Overall, Dayton's spring record stands at 8-10 with three matches to play.

Dayton took the doubles point early with two victories. Senior Tom Murphy and junior James O'Connell (9-6) prevailed at first doubles 8-4 over Temple's Zach Tobias and Pavlos Stephanides. Freshman Michael Rohana and senior Rex Cabrera then paired together for the first time this season, earning a win at the two spot 9-8, 7-2.

With UD leading, however, Temple grabbes the first two points in the singles competition. Murphy (14-4) and O'Connell (11-6) both dropped matches in the same contest for the first time this season.

Rohana (4-10) then provided a momentum changing win at third singles. The rookie knocked off Tobias 6-2, 6-3 for his third singles win in the past four matches. Cabrera (9-7) followed suit at the four spot, defeating Stephanides 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.

Freshman Matt Sherman (5-13) would then clinch the win for the Flyers at the fifth position. Sherman, who has won two of three, picked off Temple's Gonzalo De Villa 7-5, 7-5 for the deciding point. Sophomore David Peyton (8-8) was also a winner at sixth singles -- where he has now won five in a row -- defeating Robert Spencer in straight sets 6-1, 6-4

UD has now won three of its last four with three matches to play. Next up for the Flyers is Wright State University. The Flyers will head to Fairborn, Ohio to take on the Raiders on Wednesday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
