ORLANDO, FL - The University of Dayton men's tennis team took on Ivy leaguers Cornell to open its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. The Big Red downed the Flyers, 6-1.

Kevin O'Connell scored UD's lone singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over CU's Dan Brous.

"Cornell is a tough, tough team," said head coach Steve Brumbaugh. "The Big Red should be one of the top teams in the Ivy League, and definitely presented a challenge for us."

Tom Murphy fell to Brett McKeon (6-1, 6-3), while Rob Altenau dropped at 6-3, 7-5, decision to Nick Brunner. Also picking up victories for Cornell were Josh Raff over UD's Jonathan Khoury (6-2, 6-1), Ray Wu over Rex Cabrera (6-2, 6-3), and Tongel Yu against Jamison Downs (6-3, 6-2).

Cornell swept doubles action as Brunner and Raff paired up to ton Altenau and Khoury, 8-6. McKeon and Brous picked up with win over Murphy and O'Conell, 8-5. Matt Cherner-Ranft and Wu gave Cornell the sweep with an 8-0 win over Downs and Cabrera.

The Flyers fall to 8-6 in the spring campaign and will stay in Orlando for matches with Division III opponents Carthage and Salve Regina.
