MEN'S TENNIS NETS WIN OVER VALPARAISO, 5-2

The University of Dayton men's tennis team ran its record to 9-5 after dispatching of Valparaiso, 5-2, Friday afternoon at Dayton Center Courts. Jonathan Khoury won his singles match, as did Rob Altenau, and the two teamed up to take a doubles' match as well. In singles' play, Tom Murphy opened with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Nic Kooyers. Altenau lost the first, 5-7, before responding to take the second, 6-3. Down 6-1 in the third, Altenau staved off elmination, rallying for the 7-6 (9-7) win. Khoury handled Joe Venegas (6-3, 6-1) and James O'Connell defeated Valpo's Mike Shidler, 6-1, 6-3. The Crusaders grabbed two victories when David Bukowski topped Rex Cabrera (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Shabbi Khan picked up the win over UD's Jamison Downs (6-4, 6-4). The Flyers swept the three doubles matches to pick up the point. Altenau and Khoury downed Dunham-Freer/Shidler, 8-6. O'Connell and Murphy teammed for the 9-8 win over Kooyers/Khan, and Cabrera/Downs posted the 8-4 win over Venegas and Blain Keller. The Flyers rebound from a loss to Ball State for their fourth win in the last five outings. Dayton, now 8-5, will host Xavier on Wednesday, March 30, at Dayton Center Courts at 1:00 p.m. |
