MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS OHIO NORTHERN, 6-1

The UD men's tennis team returned to the win column with a 6-1 defeat of Ohio Northern on Wednesday at Dayton Center Courts. The victory ended a three match losing streak for the Flyers, which improved to 8-9 this spring. Senior James O'Connell moved into the No. 1 singles spot for the second time this spring and lead UD with a win. With sophomore Michael Rohana getting a day off, O'Connell anchored the Dayton lineup. O'Connell posted one of five straight sets victories for UD with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Micah Scott. Sophomore Matt Sherman defeated Bart Schenck at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4, while junior David Peyton downed Ryan Paul 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3. Freshman Michael Koscielski also posted a convincing victory at No. 4 singles over Chris Dohner, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Antonio Rodriguez handled Todd Anderson at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4. In doubles, O'Connell and Sherman moved up to No. 1 to defeat Scott and Schenck, 8-3. Koscielski and Rodriguez pulled out a close 9-8 (4) victory over Dohner and Paul, while Peyton and senior Josh Vance dominated Jay Viadya and Jeff Carter 8-1. Dayton will head to Denver, CO for three matches over spring break. The first match for the Flyers will be against Montana on Saturday, March 15 at 5 p.m. ET. |
