MEN'S TENNIS KEEPS ROLLING AGAINST DUQUESNE

The Dayton Flyers rebounded from a loss at Xavier on Tuesday with a dominating performance against Duquesne University on Saturday afternoon. The 7-0 win was the team's sixth victory in their last seven matches putting their record at 7-4 for the spring season. Junior Tom Murphy and sophomore James O'Connell both won their matches and remained undefeated in conference play. At first singles Murphy won a hard fought match over Devon Peightal 6-4, 6-7, 15-13. O'Connell took his match at second singles over Michael Ortega 6-3, 6-4. At third singles, junior Rex Cabrera pulled out a victor over Paul Clough 6-4, 6-0. Senior Jamison Downs followed suit with a fourth singles win over Adam Townsend 6-2, 6-4. Freshman David Peyton then beat Rob Ojeda in fifth singles play 6-4, 6-3. At sixth singles freshman Brad Roby completed the sweep taking his match over Blake Williams 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. The Flyers also swept the Dukes on the doubles front. At first doubles, Murphy and Downs teamed up to beat Clough and Ortega 8-3. Cabrera and O'Connell then took their match at second doubles 8-6. Finally, Roby and Antonio Rodriguez defeated Williams and Ojeda 8-6. The 7-4 Flyers will return to the courts March 11th against the Charlotte 49ers in North Carolina after a lengthy spring break. |
