Youngstown, OH - The men's tennis team capped a whirlwind of a weekend on Sunday morning with a 4-3 triumph over the Youngstown State Penguins. Dayton snaps a three-match losing streak and improves to 5-8 overall with the non-conference win.

Senior Tom Murphy, who lost his first match of the season yesterday, quickly recovered to push his season record to 12-1 at first singles. He defeated YSU's Tom Barth in the same manner he has dispatched most of his opponents this year -- in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Playing behind Murphy was junior James O'Connell who netted his ninth spring victory at the second singles position. O'Connell had no troubles with Scott Kathary, winning in 6-2, 6-2 straight set fashion.

Two freshmen, Matt Sherman and Wesley Hartig, came up with UD's other two points in singles play.

Hartig earned his second singles victory of the season by trouncing YSU's Jason Trapp 6-0, 6-3. Sherman's first set went into a tie-breaker, but the rookie was able to overcome Brian Meek in two frames 7-6 (11), 6-4.

The Flyers have now played four matches in the past six days, but the team will now be idle until March 6 when they travel to Indianapolis to face Butler at 3:00 p.m.
