FLYERS HAND PENGUINS 7-0 LOSS

Men's tennis pushed their record to 6-3 this afternoon after winning their fifth straight dual match in a row. The 7-0 victory over Youngstown State was the second shutout win for the Flyers this season. UD swept all six singles matches for almost all of their points. At first singles junior Tom Murphy beat Scott Kathary 6-2, 3-4 in a match that was not completed. Sophomore James O'Connell came away with a win against Tom Barth at second singles 6-0, 6-0. At third singles junior Rex Cabrera took his match against Brian Meek 7-5, 7-5. Freshman David Peyton defeated Jason Trapp at fourth singles 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, at fifth singles, freshman Brad Roby was playing a whale of a match which he finally won 7-6 (5), 6-7 (1), 1-0 (7). At sixth singles, freshman Antonio Rodriguez much more easily defeated his opponent, Sarantis Karousis, 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, the Flyers took two of three from the Penguins. At first doubles Murphy and senior Jamison Downs lost their first contest of the season 8-5. Then at second doubles O'Connell and Cabrera took their match 8-5 over J. Trapp/R. Trapp. Finally, Peyton and Roby had no trouble at third doubles as they won against Meek/Karousis 8-2. The winning streak, which has now reached five matches, have all been at home on Dayton Center Courts. The Flyers, however, will be leaving home for their next match on Tuesday against rival Xavier. The match will take place atMercy Healthplex in Fairfield. The doubles competition will kick things off at 1 p.m. ET. |
