Jan. 19, 2008 RICHMOND, Kentucky - Saturday's double-header proved to be day and night for the Dayton men's tennis team. The Flyers opened the day with a convincing 7-0 victory the University of Cumberlands, but were swept by Eastern Kentucky in the finale. Sophomore Michael Rohana anchored the Dayton line-up with a victory at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Cumberlands. The Flyers are 1-1 on the young spring season. The Flyers did not give up a set in the entire match. Rohana tallied a 6-2, 6-2 singles win over David Fei to pace the Flyers. Senior Josh Vance and freshman Chris Riccardella posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories in their matches at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively. With a win under their belt, the Flyers took on EKU in the night-capper. Sophomore Matt Sherman nearly got the Flyers on the board in his singles match at No. 2. He took EKU's Lars Gratzki to a third set before falling, 2-6, 6-1, 1-6. Although UD was swept in doubles, the Flyers competed hard. Senior James O'Connell teamed with Sherman at No. 2 to push their opponents before faltering in a 7-9 loss. The other doubles pairings (Rohana/Peyton and Rodriguez/Koscielski) each fell 5-8.
