TROOP SELECTED TO NATIONAL ALL-ROOKIE TEAM BY TOP DRAWER SOCCER
Nov. 15, 2004 University of Dayton men's soccer goalkeeper Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) was named to the Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie Third Team. The freshman netminder posted a 1.36 goals against average and a 9-3-2 record. Top Drawer Soccer, online at www.topdrawersoccer.com, named its selections for the top three all-rookie teams and had Troop as the third-best rookie goalkeeper in the nation. Troop was an All-Rookie Team selection from the Atlantic 10 Conference as six of his nine wins came in league play, where he boasted a 1.15 goals against average. Troop finished the year with two shutouts - at regular season champ Duquesne and at home against La Salle. He also stonewalled Saint Joseph's for 45 minutes before departing the game at the halftime with the Flyers routing the Hawks. He gave up one goal or less in 10 of his 14 appearances. Offensively, Troop got into the act with one assist against Fordham. His long punt was collected 30 yards from the opponents goal by Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA). Jarun found a streaking Chris Rolfe (Kettering, OH), who scored the first goal of the eventual 4-1 victory. The Flyers finished the season 11-7-2 overall and 8-3 in Atlantic 10 play, and fell 3-0 to Temple in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals. |
