FLYERS FALL AT GEORGE WASHINGTON

Oct. 24, 2004

The University of Dayton men's soccer team dropped an Atlantic 10 road match to George Washington, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. Omar Jarun tallied again for the Flyers, who fall to 5-3-0 in the Atlantic 10 and 8-6-1 overall.

Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) scored his seventh goal of the season on a diving header to open the scoring. Chris Rolfe (Kettering, OH) and Nate Darr (Centerville, OH) picked up the assists on the goal in the 45th minute that put UD up 1-0 at the half.

In the second, Frank Ambrosio scored the equalizer for George Washington in the 65th minute with a header past UD keeper Steve Ladislaw (Philadelphia, PA). Trevor Martin and Thomas Stuber picked up the assists.

Ten minutes later, Ambrosio put GW up 2-1, off a rebound from Jon Allen.

In the 83rd minute, Ladislaw - between the pipes for injured starting keeper Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) -- was issued a red card for fouling a GW player on a play in front of the net. Reserve keeper Nick Tarkany (Miamisburg, OH) was forced to make his debut in the toughest situation a goalie can face, staring down a penalty kick.

Benjamin Mortimer converted the PK and the Flyers, down a man, couldn't come back.

Ladislaw made two saves in 82:06. Tarkany, a junior, transfer to UD from East Carolina and played with the team in spring ball last year before being added to the roster for the 2004 season.

The Flyers were out-shot 13-7 for the match as Derek Biss made four saves for GW.

Dayton, at 5-3-0 in the Atlantic 10 is currently in third place, pending the conclusion of Sunday's action. GW improves to 4-8-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers return home to host Fordham on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and La Salle on Sunday at 1:00
