MEN'S SOCCER TOPS RAMS BEHIND TWO GOALS BY DARR

Oct. 17, 2004

Nate Darr scored twice to lead the University of Dayton men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Rhode Island Sunday in Kingston. Chris Rolfe set up both Darr goals and another by Omar Jarun as UD improves to 7-5-2 overall and 4-2-0 in the Atlantic 10.

After a scoreless first half, Rhode Island opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the second half as Jeffery Gonsalves tallied unassisted.

The Flyers answered right back, as Rolfe (Kettering, OH) found Darr (Centerville, OH) on a free kick for his third goal of the season just 42 seconds later.

Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) scored his fourth goal of the year in the 57th minute by heading in a cross from Rolfe to give UD a 2-1 lead.

But the Rams responded with an unassisted goal from Danleigh Borman in the 70th minute to tie the match.

Rolfe and Darr hooked up again 1:11 later, as Darr headed home a corner for his fourth goal of the year provided UD the winning margin and his second game-winning goal of the year.

Darr scored on both shots he took and now has three goals in his last three matches, while Jarun tallied his second in two games. Rolfe has two goals and five assists for nine points in seven games since rejoining the Flyers' lineup.

Steve Ladislaw (Philadelphia, PA) got the start between the pipes for UD and recorded five saves for his first win of the year.

Ladislaw and the Flyers held the nation's leading goal scorer Sasha Gotsmanov pointless on the afternoon. Gotsmanov leads the NCAA with 14 goals this season and had scored in six-straight matches.

URI out-shot UD 12-7 for the match and held a 7-6 lead in shots on goal. The Flyers have won seven of their last nine games. Rhode Island falls to 8-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton takes on Richmond on the road next Friday at First Market Stadium at 7:00 p.m. and will meet George Washington in the nation's capital on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
