DARR KEEPS MEN'S SOCCER HEADED IN RIGHT DIRECTION

Oct. 10, 2004

Nate Darr (Centerville, OH) headed in the game-winning goal with 3:19 remaining gave the Flyers a 2-1 win over Temple Sunday afternoon at Baujan Field. Tye Stebbins (Zionsville, IN) converted a penalty kick as the UD men's soccer team scored two unanswered goals to win their sixth game in the last seven.

The Flyers, coming off a 5-1 drubbing of Saint Joseph's on Friday, couldn't find the back of the net until late in the match.

After a scoreless first half, Temple was awarded a penalty kick after a UD defender took a fistful of jersey in the box. Steven Wacker's shot to the lower left side of the next gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute.

Dayton kept the pressure on TU, who played the final 25 minutes down a man after the second yellow card issued to Stephen Bristow.

In the 86th minute, Dasan Robinson (Elyria, OH) was fouled making a run in the box, leading to the penalty kick. Stebbins' sixth goal of the season tied the match with 4:01 remaining.

Just 42 seconds later, George Nanchoff (North Royalton, OH) sent a cross into the box for Darr, who headed it into the top left corner from five yards out for the game-winning goal.

Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) made three saves. He has started all of the previous seven matches. Dayton has now won six of seven and hold onto a share of first place in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-1 mark. UD is 6-4-2 overall. Temple falls to 4-6-1 overall and suffers its first loss in league play, dropping to 1-1-2.

The Flyers out-shot Temple, 13-9 for the match and 7-4 in the second half.

Dayton will travel to New England for A-10 road matches at Massachusetts on Friday at 3:00 p.m., and at Rhode Island on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.
