MEN'S SOCCER DROPS A-10 OPENER AT ST. BONAVENTURE
Oct. 1, 2004 The Dayton Flyers men's soccer team opened up Atlantic 10 play with a road loss at St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field in St. Bonaventure, NY. The Bonnies scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the match and held off the Flyer barrage at the end to take the 2-0 win. The Flyers fell behind on two quick strikes by the Bonnies. Andy Garcia served the ball into the box, where Konrad Paszkowski collected it and slipped it past the Flyer keeper just 5:46 into the match. Garcia and Paszkowski hooked up again just under a half minute later, as Garcia played the ball ahead for Paszkowski, who had gotten behind the defense and beat freshman Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) for the 2-0 lead. In the second half, Dayton poured it on Bona keeper Sean Eyde, out-shooting the Bonnies 15-1. But Eyde made six saves to post the shutout. Senior forward Chris Rolfe (Kettering, OH) led UD with six shots, all the second half. Dayton out-shot St. Bonaventure 19-5 for the game. Troop made a diving stop to his left on a breakaway to keep the match at 2-0 and record his only save. The Flyers fall to 3-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the A10, while St. Bonaventure - who was ranked No. 25 last week in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 - improves to 5-2-1. Dayton will meet Duquesne on Sunday in Pittsburgh, at 1:00 p.m. before returning home to host Saint Joseph's and Temple next weekend at Baujan Field. |
