FLYERS DRAW WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE, 0-0, IN SEASON OPENER

Sep. 3, 2004

The University of Dayton men's soccer team played 110 minutes against Wisconsin-Milwaukee with neither team getting on the board as the first game of the University of Wisconsin Big Toe Soccer Invitational ended in a 0-0 tie. Flyer goal keeper Steve Ladislaw (Philadelphia, PA) picks up his first career shutout in 2004 season opener.

Ladislaw, who did not play a minute last season, finished with four saves and made a diving stop in the second overtime to keep the match knotted at zero. UWM keeper Kirk Thode also made four saves in net The Flyers were out-shot 14-9 for the game.

Dayton's best chance came in the 32nd minute when a header hit the crossbar.

Last season, the Flyers defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee 3-2 in UD's second game of the season - at the Louisville Classic which Dayton went on to win.

Dayton's last season-opening tie came in 1989, when UD and DePaul finished in 1-1 draw. It's just the fourth time UD has opened the regular season with a tie, and only the second 0-0 tie to start the season. In 1965, UD and Cedarville shut each other out.

The Flyers will face host Wisconsin in a 3:30 start as the Big Toe Soccer Invitational continues on Sunday.
