DAN HARTWIG NAMED MEN'S SOCCER ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
Nov. 4, 2005 DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton senior defender Dan Hartwig was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team and earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ballot. Hartwig boasts a 3.449 GPA in Pre-medicine. Hartwig has played 1,437 of a possible 1,536 minutes this season in the back for the Flyers, helping the UD defense post a 0.96 goals against average, which is third-best in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Flyers' defense has posted six-shutout victories and held opponents to the second fewest shots on goal per game of any A-10 team (4.9). Dayton has out-scored opponents by 14 goals, 30-16 through 16 games this season. On October 7, Hartwig tallied an assist on the first goal in UD's 4-3, come from behind win over George Washington. The Flyers have now placed a men's soccer player on the Academic All-District team for six straight years, starting in 2000 with R.J. Kaszuba. Kaszuba, along with Dan Bestic (2001) and Tye Stebbins (2004) went on to earn a spot on the Academic All-America Teams.
The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at your institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games in the position listed on the nomination form. |
