Twelve Flyers will play their final regular season home games Friday night, as the UD men's soccer team takes on Xavier at 7:30 p.m. on Senior Night. Senior Omar Jarun has five goals in his last six games. The Flyers are 8-4-3 overall, and 3-1-2 in the A-10.
ATLANTIC 10 RACE SPRINTS TOWARDS FINISH
With the top six teams advancing on to the conference tournament, the Atlantic 10 race picture is still cloudy with three league games remaining (for UD, Xavier, LaSalle and George Washington, all others have four games left). The Flyers currently sit third with a .667 win percentage (the A-10's coaches voted this past offseason to do away with points and sort the standings by win percentage). The Flyers face seventh-place Xavier tonight. A win tonight by UD assures the Flyers a win percentage no worse than .556.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Head Coach Dennis Currier will pick between two senior netminders in goal. Steve Ladislaw is 5-1 on the season with three shutouts and a 1.19 GAA. Senior Nick Tarkany owns a 0.78 GAA with in seven starts, including back-to-back shutouts. He has a 3-2-2 record and hasn't allowed a goal in almost 205 minutes.
TARK THE SHARK
St. Bonaventure and Fordham needed the Jaws of Life to break into the UD net behind senior goalkeeper Nick Tarkany last weekend. The Flyer goalkeeper posted his first two career shutouts and lowered his goals against average to 0.78. The Dayton defense sunk its teeth into the two A-10 opponents from New York State, allowing just three shots on goal.
OMAR'S OFFENSE
With goals in five out of the last six games Omar Jarun now leads the Flyers in goals (with seven), assists (with five), and points (19). He entered the weekend third in the Atlantic 10 in points, fourth in points per game, third in goals scored, fifth in goals per game, and eighth in assists. The 6-5 forward is the tallest player in the history of UD soccer, and now has 16 goals as a Flyer in his second season at Dayton.
"GOAL"-WIG
Freshman Joe Olwig made his first start at the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic, and scored his first career goal in UD's win over Marshall. Olwig added two goals in UD's 6-2 blowout of Evansville. His fourth goal of the season came in UD's 2-0 win against St. Bonaventure, and was the eventual game-winner.
TERRY TWINKLES THE TWINE
Senior midfielder Terry Alvino put home his fourth goal of the season last Sunday, a blast fromover 30 yards out. Alvino has scored twice times this season on long shots over the keeper and just under the crossbar, the other coming against Michigan. His other two goals were headed in off set pieces. The D-II All-America selection last season has 13 goals in his career.
TWO OR BUST
Tallying two or more goals in a game almost always get the Flyers a win. UD is 53-5-5 (.881) since the start of 2000, including 6-0-1 this season.
HOME COOKIN'
With UD's 2-0 win over Fordham, the Flyers are now 12-1-1 in the last 14 games at Baujan Field. UD is 5-1-1 at home in 2005, and the Flyers were a perfect 7-0-0 at home last season. Dayton is 40-9-2 (.804) at Baujan Field since the start of 2000.
A TOP THE A-10
Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 Conference in shots per game (16.33), and ranks third in goals per game with 1.73 and points per game with a 5.20 average. The Flyers are also third in the conference in assists and assists per game. Defensively, UD's goals against average is fourth in the league at one per game. Dayton is second in attendance, averaging 729 per game, behind only Saint Louis.
THE NEXT LEVEL
Former Flyer Chris Rolfe was named a finalist for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award. The 29th pick of the 2005 SuperDraft leds the Chicago Fire in goal scoring in the regular season with eight, earning him the Budweiser Golden Boot Award. The Fire are in the MLS Cup playoffs versus D.C. United in the first round. He scored both goals in a 2-1 Fire win in front of his friends and family in Columbus against the Crew. He also picked up a goal in a friendly against European superpower A.C. Milan. Rolfe was signed to the senior roster and awarded a new contract, yet still finds time to make it back for UD games. Rolfe is the fourth Flyer to play in the MLS, with Denny Clanton (Chicago Fire, 2004) and Mark Schulte (Tampa Bay Mutiny, 1997; Columbus Crew, 2005) and now Michael Nsien. Nsien was signed by the MLS' Los Angeles Galaxy. Nsien, who played for UD from 1999-2001 earned his spot on the Galaxy's developmental roster after he appeared in two games for the Galaxy reserves during the 2005 season (both starts) and played a total of 180 minutes.

POST SEASON AT BAUJAN
While the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship is at St. Louis this year, UD's Baujan Field will host the 2005 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, November 3, 4 and 6. The top six teams in the conference make the tournament, with the top two teams receiving byes to the semifinals.
