FORMER UD MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER ROLFE NETS HAT TRICK

Former University of Dayton men's soccer player Chris Rolfe netted a hat trick and two assists to lead the Chicago Fire into the MLS playoffs on a high note as they downed the New York Red Bulls, 5-2, on ESPN2's MLS Primetime Thursday. Rolfe's quick-release second goal has been nominated for the Sierra Mist MLS Goal of the Week. Rolfe leads the Fire in goals scored with nine, including a team-high three game winners. He also has seven assists this season. The former Flyer has already earned the MLS Goal of the Week two times in his career. He achieved the feat with his game winner against the New England Revolution on May 3, 2008 and last season on Sept. 20, 2007 in a 1-1 tied vs. FC Dallas. As UD's all-time assist leader with 25, Rolfe was selected to the 2004 NSCAA/adidas® Men's NCAA Division I All-America Second Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 pick. Rolfe ranks sixth in career goals (31) and third in points (87) on the Dayton charts as well. |
