CHICAGO – Former University of Dayton men's soccer player Chris Rolfe is once again in the spotlight on the Major League Soccer (MLS) stage.
Rolfe's highlight-reel score against Toronto FC on July 12, 2008 is a nominee for Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. In the sixth minute of the Fire's 2-1 victory over Toronto FC, Rolfe, playing at midfielder, received the ball just outside the 18-yard box, deked the defender and sent a far-post strike just past the 'keeper. He is also up for the “Chicago Fire Man of the Match” on the team’s website.
The former Flyer has already earned the MLS Goal of the Week two times in his career. He achieved the feat with his game winner against the New England Revolution on May 3, 2008 and last season on Sept. 20, 2007 in a 1-1 tied vs. FC Dallas.
Through 15 games this season, Rolfe has played in 11 and started 10 for the Fire. He has amassed 11 points on four goals and three assists and is tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. Last year Rolfe recorded six goals and three assists in 19 regular season games. Rolfe, a 2005 MLS Rookie of the Year nominee, has played in 80 games with 70 starts in his career, tallying 25 goals and 12 assists. He has also appeared in matches for the U.S. Men’s National Team.
Former Dayton Flyer Dasan Robinson is also on the Chicago Fire roster and has played in two games this season at defender.
Rolfe and Robinson have helped the Fire to a 7-5-3 overall record and third place in the Eastern Standings.
As UD's all-time assist leader with 25, Rolfe was selected to the 2004 NSCAA/adidas® Men's NCAA Division I All-America Second Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 pick. Rolfe ranks sixth in career goals (31) and third in points (87) on the Dayton charts as well.
Robinson played in 68 games between 2002 and 2005 for the Flyers and was selected by the Fire in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.
