FLYERS PICK UP TWO WINS IN WEEKEND PLAY
April 14, 2008
Battling through injuries the Dayton Flyers still managed to pull out a pair of wins in three games. UD started off well with a 1-0 triumph over the Northern Kentucky Norse. Ryan Hartman scored the lone goal of the game as UD defeated an NKU squad that went to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The following game UD picked up another 1-0 win, this time over the Marshall Thundering Herd. Josh Albers picked up the goal against Marshall to extend the Flyers' spring season unbeaten streak to five. UD's back four played well once again as Sonny Renner, Randy Dennis, Tommy Watkins, Zach Weiss and Kyle Basil all were featured well. "Overall, it was a decent weekend for the Flyers," coach Dennis Currier said. "We have some key players out due to injury so our fitness really had to play a large role this weekend." However UD suffered its first defeat of the spring with a 2-1 road loss against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Alex Torda scored off an assist from Zach Weiss in the first half to put UD ahead early. The Flyers missed several good chances and became fatigued in the second half. UC scored two second half goals to earn the win. UD is now 3-1-2 during the spring season. Dayton concludes the spring season with two games on Saturday, April 19. The Flyers travel to Akron, Ohio for a contest against Ohio Wesleyan and Akron. |
