UD MEN'S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST A-10 SETBACK
Oct. 31, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - No. 22 Dayton dropped its first Atlantic 10 contest this season after suffering a 4-2 setback to Temple Friday afternoon at Ambler Soccer Complex. "This just wasn't our day," said UD head coach Dennis Currier. "We must regroup and get ready for Sunday." The Owls went up 3-0 at the half and UD never recovered. Temple scored in the 10th minute, 21st minute and with about one minute remaining in the first period, put away another score to take what proved to be an insurmountable lead. Junior Jeff Popella finally got the Flyers (11-3-2, 5-1-1 A-10) on the board early in the second half, putting away a penalty kick at the 46:07 mark. That's all the scoring either team mustered until five minutes left in the match. Augustin Coly put the Owls up 4-1 in the 86th minute. Ryan Hartman scored his first goal this season to cut the lead to 4-2 at the 86:21 mark for the Flyers. Temple (8-4-3, 4-1-1 A-10), tied for second in the A-10 standings, outshot Dayton, 25-11. The Flyers stay in Philadelphia where they will play Saint Joseph's in another A-10 clash Sunday at noon at Finnesey Field. |
