DAYTON ENDS SEASON WITH FOUR-GAME UNBEATEN STREAK
Oct. 29, 2006
DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Antti Arst capped his Dayton men's soccer career with an assist and game-winning goal in the Flyers' 4-2 Senior Day win over Charlotte (9-5-4, 5-2-2) Sunday at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio. Dayton (6-9-2, 2-5-2) ended its season on a four-game unbeaten streak. Officials credited Arst with a goal, which came on a free kick from 40 yards out in the 29th minute, after deliberating whether the Flyers were offsides. Arst's goal was one of three for UD in the first 29 minutes. Aaron Swanson found the lower left corner of the net from 25 yards out in the 7th minute. Florian DeCamps headed in Arst's free kick less than four minutes later. Charlotte pulled within a goal on two occasions. Michael Rose's penalty kick made it 2-1in the 20th minute. Tom Woollard fired Andre Lee's pass into the goal from 13 yards out in the 66th minute to make it 3-2. Both Charlotte goals came after lengthy conferences by the referees. UD goalie Nick Tarkany knocked away a Woollard bullet that Rose scooped up and fired toward the net. A UD defender blocked the shot near the post. Officials determined the UD defender partially blocked the shot with his hand. Officials chatted about a possible offsides call before allowing the Woollard goal. Dayton put the game away with just less than nine minutes remaining when Patrick Polito finished off a three-shot flurry with his first career goal. Polito's first attempt bounced to teammate Simeon Zaprianov who hit the crossbar. Polito headed in Zaprianov's deflection. |
