FLYER MEN OPEN FALL SEASON WITH 14TH PLACE FINISH AT JOHN PIPER INVITE
Sep. 14, 2004 BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Brett Gould (Dayton, OH) shot a second-round 70 (-2) to lead the University of Dayton men's golf team at the John Piper Invitational in Bowling Green, OH. Gould recovered from a rocky first round to shoot 10-over and finish in 38th place at the three-round event, which opened the season for the Flyers. Gould began play at the Stone Ridge Golf Club (par -72) with a nine-over 81, but recovered to 70 and 75 over the final two rounds for a 226 total. Senior Tim Skufka (Chardon, OH) shot 77-75-77 for a 229 and junior Adam Myers (Franklin, OH) shot a 230. Senior Bill Everding (St. Louis, MO) and senior A.J. Quinter (Minster, OH) rounded out the Flyer golfers with a 235 and 237 respectively. UD finished 14th overall in the event with a 911 (+47). Marquette University took the team title with an 852 (-12). Ohio University was second with a one-under 863. The individual medalist was Chris Shuford from Longwood University, who shot an eight-under 208. The Flyers return to action September 25-26 at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in Richmond, KY. |
