PHILADELPHIA - Senior Rob Chappell closed out a successful 2008 golf season by receiving the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Player of the Week award.

Chappell closed out the 2008 fall season with an 11th-place finish at the Austin Peay State University Intercollegiate on Oct. 20-21. He carded a 70-68-76 for a 214 total en route to leading the Flyers to a share of a seventh-place finish.

The senior from Cincinnati capped a 2008 golf season in which he won the individual championship at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship, advanced to the Round of 64 at the 2008 U.S. Amateur and earned the Flyers' Most Valuable Player award for the third season in a row.

Chappell led Dayton in stoke average (73.4), total rounds (14) and best individual round (66) during the fall campaign.

He is the third Flyer to win an A-10 weekly honor after Zach Glassman picked up the player of the week award and Michael Oberschmidt tallied Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 13.

The last time Chappell won the honor during the regular season was on Oct. 1, 2007.

UD capped a fall campaign in which the Flyers won their first tournament championship in three years and saw four different golfers reach career bests in stroke average and individual rounds.

Dayton, as a team, finished the fall season averaging 299.00 strokes per round. Last season the Flyers averaged 302.08 strokes per round.
