FINDLAY, Ohio - After round two of the 102nd Ohio Amateur Championship three Dayton Flyers, sophomore Zach Glassman and seniors Rob Chappell and Mitch Custenborder, advanced to the final two rounds of the tournament. "All of UD's players performed professionally and with grit and determination that would make UD fan proud," said head coach Chris Hale. "I can't wait to get at the fall schedule so his team can stretch its wings and begin to win tournaments." Glassman fired a second round 74 and finished the first two rounds with a total of 146. Chappell enjoyed the team's second best score of the day firing a 75 and headed into the clubhouse with a two-day score of 152. After two rounds Glassman is in 10th and 10 strokes back of the leader with a 136 total. Custenborder, who shot a 72 in round one, added a 77 in round two to also advance to the final rounds with a 149 total. Freshman Michael Oberschmidt just missed the cut after shooting a second round 78. He finished with a two-day total of 153. Sophomore Chris Woeste bounced back from a first round 81 to shoot a 76 in round two. The golf course again took its toll on the players and showed its teeth with shots in the four-inch rough and firm, fast greens. Ohio Golf Association officials speculated early Wednesday that the cut might be in the 147 to 148 range. Higher than expected afternoon scores put the final cut at 152. However, the trio will be among the top 60 golfers in the state vying for the Ohio Amateur Championship, a title that has been held by legendary golfers such as Arnold Palmer. The tournament continues at the Findlay Country Club on Thursday. The top 40 after Thursday's third round advance to Friday's final round of play. |
