Tyrer Takes Over Program He Played For From 2000-04

DAYTON, OH - Drew Tyrer was named the University of Dayton Men's Golf Head Coach and Assistant to External Affairs for the UD Athletic Department. This is his first head coaching job after spending the 2004-05 season as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.

His collegiate career took him to the University of Dayton, where he was a four-year letterman and three-time captain of the golf team. He tied the course record with a 64 (-6) on the North Course at NCR Country Club in Dayton during his freshman season. He competed in 46 collegiate tournaments totaling over 130 rounds of golf during his career.

Drew also excelled in the classroom while at UD, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with a minor in journalism in 2004. He was a three-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll Recipient and was also the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board for the 2003-04 academic year.

He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Louisville, where he graduated in 2005 with a Master of Science in Sport Administration. During his studies, he served as an assistant coach for the men's golf team at the University of Louisville where he provided statistical analysis and individual instruction for the golfers.

Tyrer also worked extensively with the University of Louisville Men's Golf Booster Club, known as the "MasterCards." He provided monthly newsletters to the alumni and boosters as well as recaps and scores from all events that U of L participated in. He was also Tournament Coordinator for the 2004 Cardinal Intercollegiate Tournament, and created a recruiting database for the Cardinals and assisted in their recruiting efforts.

Other organizations he has worked with include Churchill Downs Incorporated, where he worked in the Sales Department, and a stint as an assistant to the Senior Associate Athletic Director at Clemson University where he also helped with the 2003 NCAA Championship Clemson Golf Team.

Drew is a native of Frankfort, KY, and is the son of Ron and Karen Tyrer of Clarkson, KY. He is engaged to Holly Amshoff, a third-grade teacher from Louisville, KY and their wedding is set for July 14.
