WOLF RUN INTERCOLLEGIATE NEXT UP FOR DAYTON MEN'S GOLF
April 11, 2007 Coming off the heels of its best spring finish, the Dayton Flyers return to action on Sunday at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, hosted by IUPUI at Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind. The Flyers return to action after a sixth place finish at the Eastern Kentucky Intercollegiate where UD shot a 296, 290 and 298 in three rounds. As a team, the Flyers are averaging 316.63 strokes per round in 11 rounds this spring season. In the fall, UD's median score was 298.36 per round. But the Flyers have rallied from a slow start to pick up its level of play. Dayton is averaging a 302.20 stroke average in its previous five rounds. One of the unsung heroes this spring has been senior Sam Morton. In 11 rounds this spring, Morton is averaging 78.9 strokes. He has fired an 80 or lower in seven consecutive rounds. Another player on a hot streak is sophomore Rob Chappell, who has shot a 78 or less in six consecutive rounds. His best performance came at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational where he capped the tournament with a third round, one-under 71. Sophomore Mitch Custenborder is starting to find his stroke as well shooting rounds of 71 and 76 in his final two appearances at the Eastern Kentucky Intercollegiate. One of Indianapolis's premiere courses, Wolf Run is a classic tree-lined course with plenty of elevation changes. A par-71 course, Golfweek Magazine rated Wolf Run No. 16 out of 100 venues on America's Best Modern Courses in 2003.
