MYERS LEADS FLYERS TO THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT UC/UD INVITATIONAL
April 6, 2005 Centerville, Ohio - Junior Adam Myers shot a 2-over par 74 to the lead the University of Dayton men's golf team to a third-place finish at the UC/UD Collegiate Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace. Myers tied Tuesday's low-round after shooting a 75 in the tournament's first round at the Clovernook Country Club in Cincinnati Monday. Senior Jennifer Edgin led the UD women's team to a fifth place finish with a two-day score of 172 (85-87). Edgin finished 19th overall in the women's event, marking the first time she has led the Flyers this season. UD totaled 712 as a team. Myers finished tied for second individually in the two-day event, shooting a 149. The junior closed at 1-under on Yankee Trace's final seven holes, while carding the round's lone birdie on the 397-yard par 4 15th. The 74 was Myers' lowest round of the spring season. Overall medalist Drew Shafer from IUPUI followed his 71 on Monday with a 77 Tuesday, helping lead the Jaguars (604) to the men's team title. University of Cincinnati's Geoff Newman tied Myers with a 149 (73-76) as the co-host Bearcats (606) took second. Yankee Trace played at 7,230 yards for the men, nearly 500 yards longer than Monday's round at Clovernook (par-70). For the Flyers men, who shot 611 as a team, Bill Everding tied for fifth with a two-day total of 152 (76-76). A.J. Quinter and Tim Skufca tied for 12th at 157, while Brett Gould carded a 159 to finish tied for 18th. Sam Morton finished tied for 22nd with a 161. Mike Molnar (175), Jeff Heisler (181), Matt Doherty (183), Chad Underwood (183) and Mike Fink (185) rounded out the Flyers' field. On the women's side, Melissa Juve shot a final-round 85 to finish 24th overall (175). She was followed by Carolyn Fuchs (181), Lindsey Greuter (182), Tiffany Ruhe (184), Laura Grande (194), Mary Kane (196) and Melissa Gaus (208). In the men's overall team standings, Walsh University took fourth (626), followed by Butler University (633) and UD's "B" squad (699). Northern Kentucky University was the overall women's champion with a 642, followed by Cincinnati (645), Butler (662), Oakland University (667), Dayton, IUPUI (713) and Cleveland State (722). The men will return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Billikin Invitational in St. Louis, MO. The women are next in action at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Friday and Saturday in Homestead, Va. |
