DAYTON MEN'S GOLF TIED FOR 12TH AFTER THE SECOND ROUND OF THE F&M BANK APSU INTERCOLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL
Oct. 23, 2006 Links at Novadell, HOPKINSVILLE, Ky - The University of Dayton men's golf team sits in 12th place after the opening day of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Monday. Kenny Wittenberg came out strong in the first round shooting an even par with a 34 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine. Wittenberg is only six shots behind the leader, Bradley Pate, from Samford University. Senior Sam Morton finished the first round just one stroke behind teammate, Wittenberg. He shot one over par and is currently tied for 28th going into tomorrows round. Not far behind Morton is sophomore teammates Rob Chappell and Mitch Custenborder. Chappell shot a 37 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine. Custenborder is only two shots behind Chappell shooting a 78. Rounding out the competition for the Flyers was John Zaller, who is not far behind his teammates, shooting an 83. In the second round, later on Monday, Wittenberg proved himself again ending the day tied for 10th place. Teammate Chappell improved his play in the second round tying for 36th place with Morton. Custenborder and Zaller ring in the Flyers placing 65th and 85th heading into tomorrow's third round. The Flyers will conclude play tomorrow at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. |
