FLYERS MEN'S GOLF FINISHES TIED FOR 8TH AT THE XAVIER INVITATIONAL
Oct. 6, 2009
LOVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Michael Oberschmidt couldn't have been more comfortable out on the golf course. The Cincinnati native played his best three rounds of the season finishing in a tie for ninth among individuals at the 2009 Xavier Invitational. Oberschmidt entered the day three under par for the tournament and remained at that score after firing an even par 72 in round three. Showing poise throughout the tournament, Oberschmidt's 213 total was the best in his brief Flyer career. Oberschmidt's effort helped the Flyers finish in a tie for eighth at the 12-team tournament. After shooting team scores of 296 and 286 in day one, UD slipped a bit tallying a 295. Still, the 877 total is the Flyers' best tournament score in the 2009 fall campaign. Shaking off a slow start in round one, junior Chris Woeste finished well tallying a one-over 73 in the third round. He finished with a 219 total score, good for a tie in 29th. Freshman Sean Keating had a 76 in round one, a 71 in the second round and another 76 in round three. Freshman Matt Buse bounced back from back-to-back 76's in day one to record a 74 in the final round. Rounding out the scoring was freshman John Muir who tallied an 80 in round three. The final event of the fall campaign will take place in two weeks as the Flyers host the University of Dayton Invitational. The two-day tournament will take place at the NCR Country Club from Oct. 19-20. |
