OBERSCHMIDT'S OUTSTANDING DAY PUTS HIM IN A TIE FOR 4TH OVERALL

FAIRLAWN, Ohio - A career-best 68 from sophomore Michael Oberschmidt helped him finish day one of the 2009 Xavier Invitational in a tie for fourth overall. Oberschmidt's rounds of 68 and 73 have him just five strokes back of the individual lead. Overall, the University of Dayton Flyers are in a tie for sixth after carding team totals of 296 and 286. The 286 in round two was the team's best overall score this season. Junior Chris Woeste battled back from a first round 76 to shoot a two-below par 70 in round two. Woeste is tied for 27th overall among individuals. Freshman Sean Keating also improved after firing a 71 in the second round, a five-stroke improvement from the 76 in round one. Freshman Matt Buse shot back-to-back scores of 76, while freshman John Muir tallied an 81 in round one, but a stellar 72 in the second. The third and final round of the Xavier Invitational will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 6. |
