UD as a team shot a 613, just 27 strokes behind the lead held by Bowling Green State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Rob Chappell shot back-to-back rounds of 76 to lead the Dayton Flyers after the first two rounds of the John Piper Intercollegiate.

Chappell, fresh off an appearance in the Round of 64 at the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship, finished day one eight strokes over par.

Fellow U.S. Amateur participant, sophomore Zach Glassman, is just one stroke behind Chappell at nine over. Glassman shot a 75 in the first round and a 78 in the second.

Tied with Glassman is the 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Chris Woeste. Woeste shot rounds of 78 and 75 to finish day one tied for 30th overall.

Making his Flyer debut, freshman Michael Oberschmidt carded rounds of 78 and 77 and is tied for 41st overall. Senior Matthew Friend recorded back-to-back rounds of 78 to round out the scoring.

UD as a team shot a 613 and are tied for eighth overall, just 27 strokes behind the lead held by Bowling Green State after 27 holes.

Dayton returns to action for the third and final round of the tournament at the Stone Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
