WINTER GARDEN, FL - Senior Brett Gould carded a two-under-par 70 to lead Dayton into eighth place after the first round of the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships on Friday at the Orange County National GC. The Flyers are just two shots out of sixth place entering Saturday's second round which tees off at 8:00 a.m. ET.

Gould shot a 37 on the front nine followed by a 33 on the back nine to finish the first day just two shots behind a trio of leaders at 68. The UD graduate student carded his best round of the Spring on Friday.

Freshman Rob Chappell finished his first ever round at the Atlantic 10 Championships just one-over par at 73 after a 36 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. He was tied for 23rd place individually.

Classmate Matt Friend was just two shots back of Chappell with a 75 (36-39) while senior Adam Meyers shot a 77 (39-38) in the opening round. Friend is tied for 37th while Meyers is tied for 46th place.

Junior John Zaller rounded out the Flyer competitors with a first round 81 (39-42) and is tied for 58th place.
