CENTERVILLE, Ohio - Senior Bill Everding carded a final-round 76 to lead the University of Dayton men's golf team at the UD Spring Invitational Tuesday at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville. The Flyers shot 935 as a team for the three-round tournament and finished fifth in the 11-team field. Everding was 12th individually with a 231.

Everding was the Flyers' wire-to-wire leader after opening with a 74 in Monday's first round. He posted an 81 in the afternoon yesterday and followed that with a four-over par 76 in the rain and wind Tuesday at the 6,923-yard, par-72 Yankee Trace course.

Senior Tim Skufca tied Everding for the Flyers' low round Tuesday with a 76 and finished tied with teammate Adam Myers in 18th place with a three-round score of 235 (+19). Skufca carded scores of 78-81-76 while Myers went 77-79-79. Senior A.J. Quinter finished tied for 29th with a 240 (82-77-81) and Brett Gould was 34th with a 242 (78-79-85).

Playing for the Flyers' B-squad, sophomore Sam Morton led all UD golfers yesterday with rounds of 78 and 75, but was forced to withdraw from the tournament in order to take an exam at its regularly scheduled time. Freshman Chad Underwood carded a 245 for the tournament, sophomore John Zaller shot a 249 and freshman Mike Molnar posted a 261.

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's Eric Mabee went wire-to-wire to capture individual medalist honors while helping the Phoenix to the team title as well. With a three-round score at even par (71-73-72=216), Mabee topped Butler University's Chris Spitler (73-75-72=220) by four strokes.

As a team, UWGB shot 899 and topped second-place St. Bonaventure (915) by 16 strokes. Cleveland State University (922), Longwood University (923), Dayton (935) and Butler (935) rounded out the top five.

The Flyers will be in action again at Atlantic 10 Championship, May 6-8 at the Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I.
