MEN'S GOLF FIFTH AFTER DAY ONE OF UD INVITATIONAL
April 25, 2005 CENTERVILLE, Ohio - Bill Everding opened with a first-round 74 and leads the University of Dayton men's golf team after Day One of the UD Spring Invitational at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace. With a two round total of 623, the Flyers are fifth in the 11-team field heading into tomorrow morning's final round. Everding shot a two-over par 74 in the morning round, an 81 in the afternoon and leads the Flyers' A-squad with a 155. His 11-over par score puts him tied for 16th in the 58-golfer field. Although playing for the UD's B-squad, Sam Morton was the story for the Flyers on Monday. The sophomore shot his low round of the season in the afternoon with a 75 after opening the tournament with a 78. He actually leads all UD players in 12th place overall with a nine-over par 153. Adam Myers followed his 77 in the morning with a 79 in the afternoon and sits tied for 19th at 156 (+12). Brett Gould is tied for 24th at 157 (78-79). Tim Skufca (78-81) and A.J. Quinter (82-77) are tied for 27th at 159. Rounding out the Flyers are Chad Underwood at 34th with a 162 (85-77), John Zaller at 169 (85-84) and Mike Molnar with a 172 (85-87). A pair of impressive rounds by University of Wisconsin-Green Bay's Eric Mabee has him and the Phoenix in the lead after Monday's first two rounds. Mabee opened with a one-under par 71 and followed that with a 73 in the second round. His 144 leads Butler University's Chris Spitler by four strokes. With a 598 overall, UWGB has a 10-stoke advantage over St. Bonaventure. Only three players carded sub-par rounds at the 6,923-yard, par-72 Golf Club at Yankee Trace Monday. Mabee, his teammate Jason Hill and IPFW's Andy Campbell all shoot one-under par 71s. The final round of the UD Spring Invitational is set to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning with a shotgun start. |
